WINSTON-SALEM, NC -- NASCAR driver Ryan Robertson and his race team
Robertson Racing today unveiled two new race cars that sport a
Winston-Salem State University Motorsport Management sponsorship
during a ceremony that included students, faculty and staff on the
campus of WSSU.
The sponsorship means WSSU Motorsport Management Program logos
will adorn the rear quarter panel of both Robertson race cars.
Robertson competes in several stock car racing series throughout
the Southeast U.S. In 2007, Robertson had 44 starts, 1 pole, 1 win,
15 top fives and 31 top ten finishes. He finished fifth at
Friendship Motor Speedway and seventh at Bowman Gray Stadium.
“Through our support of Robertson Racing we will also raise
awareness of our Motorsport Management program,” said Dr. Travis
Teague, coordinator of WSSU’s Motorsports Management program.
Robertson began his racing career in 2002 (his first race at
Bowman Gray Stadium was only four weeks after getting his NC
driver's license). Since his debut to racing, Robertson quickly rose
to the next level. He was awarded the prestigious Rookie of the Year
award in 2005, after finishing the season fifth in the American
Speed Association points standings. In the 2006 season at Friendship
Motor Speedway, Robertson was equally impressive, missing the
championship by only eight finishing positions. He also had two Bud
pole victories, and 2 race wins and 13 top five finishes.
Developed in 2006 and offering its first class in 2007, WSSU’s
Motorsport Management Program is the nation’s first Bachelor of
Science degree program dedicated to motorsport management. It is
also the first program of its kind at a Historically Black College
or University (HBCU). |
